The colonial-style Raub Resthouse - Photo: khong's Located about 110km from Kuala Lumpur and 265km from Kuantan, Raub is both a town and a district. It is one of the oldest towns in Pahang.

Raub, which literally means 'scoop' in Malay is a historic gold mining settlement. The place had seen glory during the 19th century. Traces of the old gold mine a little out of town at Bukit Koman (Command Hill) are still evident.

Raub is an ideal base to explore this part of Pahang state. Locals will be quick to recommend the Government Rest House, which is located on a hill right in the town itself.

Elsewhere, there are a few basic hotels and one strategically located country adventure resort located halfway between Raub and Kuala Lipis.
