The forested terrains of Pahang is very conducive to the growth of a wide range of edible fruit-bearing trees. Many are endemic species while some have been transplanted from elsewhere by the British colonial administrators as well as ancient merchants who barter foreign exotic fruits whose seeds find the soil in Pahang ideal for propagation.

This fertile land nurtures at least 370 species of native fruits including the thorny-skinned durian (the King of Fruits), the hairy rambutan, langsat, duku, rambai, salak and many more.
Many of the fruits are now cultivated in orchards while some not so common ones are still harvested in their natural habitat – the forests. The durian, rambutan, mangosteen, duku and langsat are the most popular native fruits, while the cempedak, nangka (jackfruit) and salak take second place.
