It is not
just the sea, beautiful beaches and Tioman Island that
make Pahang the most all-encompassing holiday
destination in Malaysia. Its wild and rustic rural
interior also offers unlimited adventures and exciting
days of exploration and discoveries.
Located
in the peninsula and so easily accessible, your Pahang
destination does not need days of painstaking travel. It
takes only a few hours to find yourself amidst verdant
forests, frolicking in gushing waterfalls, exploring the
unique wetlands or to come up close and personal with
amazing wildlife. Easy accessibility, warm tropical
climate, on-going conservation efforts and numerous
nature spots all contribute to making Pahang a premier
eco-tourism destination on this side of Malaysia.
Most parts of the state are covered by the oldest
tropical rainforests -- home to a variety of
exotic, rare and protected flora and fauna. Challenging
jungle tracking, the adrenaline-pumping thrill of white
water rafting or a quiet communion with nature are
among the wide range of activities that can be enjoyed
in Pahang's fascinating outdoor environment. The many
rivers, streams and lakes also teem with many species of
fresh-water fish.
In Pahang
you have not one but many choices to chose from if you
decide on an inland adventure. For the cool climes of
the highlands you have two to chose from. Three if you
take into account the glitzy attractions of Genting
Highlands. If it is lakes and wetlands, you have two -
Lake Chini with its fabled ancient sunken city or Lake
Bera, which is the largest in Malaysia. Both have their
unique attractions to keep you in awe.
If it is
wildlife, you can actually get up close to them at
centres such as the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary or
the Jenderak Seladang (wild buffalo) and Deer Breeding
Centre. These are places where the animals are not just
for show but are actually stationed there to perpetuate
their survival for their sake and ours. Therein lies
conservation. The elephant sanctuary is where stray or
injured pachyderms are treated and rehabilitated before
being released back into the wilds.
