A leisurely ride in a traditional Pahang dugout canoe at Kenong Rimba Park

Cascading waterfalls, clear mountain streams amidst flora and fauna of diverse species await once you set foot in Kenong Rimba Park, a 128 square kilometre forest park situated in the valleys of the Kenong River.

The park is where several popular explorable limestone caves, among which are BatuThe cave entrance at Kenong Rimba Park Tangkup, Batu Tangga, Batu Hijau and Batu Harimau, that provide natural habitat for bats and other nocturnal creatures. Although tigers are rarely sighted at the caves, their tracks are often spotted here. You will marvel at the range of flora and fauna found in the caves, located approximately between 122-152 metres above sea level.

Wildlife Attractions

A major attraction of the Kenong Rimba Park, is the seven-tier waterfall with its crashing rapids that flow through rugged rocky terrain. As in any other forest park in Malaysia, Kenong Rimba Park is home to a variety of wildlife including elephant, panther, sun bear, tapir, flying fox, sambar deer and mouse-deer. There are also several species of primates such as monkeys and gibbons.

Kenong Rimba Park is a sanctuary to wild birds, which include many migratory species from as far away as North Asia and resident species such as the yellow-vented bulbul, white-rumped shama, brown shrike, chestnut-winged babbler and racquet-tailed drongo.

Forest Adventure

The spectacular forest at Kenong Rimba Park provides a perfect hideaway for nature enthusiasts. Besides cave exploration, swimming and dipping in the cool pools of the 7-tier waterfall, you could indulge in spotting rare-orchids, fishing and endless days of jungle trekking. Along the way you can get to know the lifestyle of the friendly aborigines of the batik tribe.

Accommodation

Decent and comfortable accommodation is available at the park. Reasonably-priced chalets take the work out of looking for a suitable place to spend the nights. For the more adventurous, you can rough it out at the designated camping sites. Over in the town of Kuala Lipis there are hotels, lodges, inns and a rest house.

Near Kuala Lipis.
GETTING THERE :
Kuala Lipis is 180 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur and 250 kilometres from Kuantan (depending on which route you take). If you drive, you take the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, take a left turn at Bentong and proceed past Raub and Benta.

If you are from Singapore, take the train direct to Kuala Lipis. To get to Kenong Rimba Park, take a 20-minute boat ride from Batu 9 jetty or an hour's boat ride from Kuala Lipis.
