people would stay away from the sea during the
monsoon and find you odd if this period of wet and
tempestuous weather is part of your vacation plan.

where the Asian Windsurfing Tour (AWT) stages its
annual event - the Monsoon Challenge.
Balok
is chosen because of its bay that curves
round a wide arc. The coastline offers over 16km
of coast and seabed with gentle shelves but no
sudden drops and reefs, making it a safe place to
host this extreme sport. With consistent
cross/on-shore winds of between 10 and 20 knots,
Balok Beach makes it to the Top 10 venues in the
world for windsurfing. Unlike other locations,
participants find the Monsoon Madness at Balok
Beach very relaxed between competitions. The place
is renowned for its laid-back rural charm and
beautiful natural environment. What more can you
expect of an idyllic seaside setting with a white
sandy beach that seems to stretch on forever, the
blue sea on one side and swaying trees on the
other?
